Henderson Walk recap

Hallo

I hope everybody had fun last last Saturday at the walk. It was certainly invigorating!

Just want to say a special WELL DONE to all those who participated in the walk. It was an excellent form of exercise

We should hold more of such events, its really much healthier. =)

Here are the pictures I took. We've got some good jump shots! haha

I've also added in the slideshow on the right so you can look at it if you want to. Clicking on the slideshow will open a new window and make it bigger..

Cheers

Evening Walk @ The Southern Ridges

hey fellow Walkers!

this Saturday is another eventful day..we have our walk at The Southern Ridges!

We will start from Hort Park and end at the Henderson Bridge (the wavey bridge).

ATTIRE
Sporting attire (comfortable clothes, decent enough to go Vivo City for dinner). Sports shoes. Face towels. Water Bottles. Maybe comfortable footwear after the walk like sandals and slippers.

TIME & VENUE
I suppose we can start off from the HORT PARK at about 5.30pm

Non-Drivers listen up! Your job is very simple..just ask your respective drivers to drop you at the Hort Park at about 5.10pm (give the drivers enough time to come back)

Drivers, we have to decide on an arrangement.

The challenge here is that the car park nearest to the Hort Park isn't that near after all. From my estimation, it's about 10mins walk from the car park to the Hort Park. If anyone is still interested in parking at the Hort Park, it's CAR PARK D.

Note: Illegal parking I don't know ah. Maybe can share with fellow drivers if there is.

On the other hand, the car park at our finishing line, CAR PARK 1 (preferred) or 2, is very near to the Henderson Bridge. Hence, more suitable and convenient.

After much thoughts, I think it is rather challenging to transport 20+ people in 4 cars. So, everyone can make their way there themselves. Anyone who wants to car pool, kindly contact each other.

I would think that these few cars would drive...

1) Helen & Tammy & Stacey

2) Colin & Jennifer + Edwin & Tracey??

3) Allan & Lillian & Lynette & Aaron

4) Amos & Valerie & Celine & Cheryl

5) Yiu Seng & Connie + Sharon

6) Daniel & Jolyn & Jerald & Justin

There's still a lot of ambiguity because I do not know who is coming or not. So please confirm attendance so that I can plan efficiently.

This is just a suggestion, any comments and suggestions are definitely welcomed.

If this plan goes, drivers should try to be at CAR PARK 1/2 before 5.20pm. Consideration and courtesy is required from everyone. So that we don't have people coming early and waiting. When there are 3 or 4 drivers there, you guys can flag a cab to the Hort Park.

DINNER

This is still unplanned for. Someone suggest any place nearby that is affordable and decent?

If there is no suggestions, kindly vote for a reasonable budget for 20+ people so that I can go shopping for food outlets.

I think we have to book in advance to ensure we have food.

If it helps, these are some of the (familiar) food outlets nearby:

- No Sign Board Seafood Restaurant ($35 - $45)
- Sushi Tei ($25 - $35)
- Nyonya & Baba ($25 - $35)
- Buona Vista Duck Rice

Estimated prices are quoted from www.hungygowhere.com

That's all from me. Any suggestions or amendments needed just contact me through phone or email also can.

Cheers

Our National Flag...from where??

Hi Everyone!

since National Day is around the corner.. maybe i can contribute something i heard about the Singapore Flag..

well..many of us, including me, were told that the crescent moon represents a young nation.. five starts represent 5 qualities.. red and white represent some other things...

but did u ever wondered... why 5 stars to represent the qualities? why not 5 circles or other shapes? why red and white, not blue and yellow?

maybe i have the answer.. =)

i learned about this from a "National Education Teacher" when i joined the airforce.. (yes..they have someone to teach us about our country)

he said.. 1965 was a very turbulent time..Singapore became independent and was just a tiny island.. hence, she has to consider the other commanding nations in the world..especially those neighbouring it..

so when the national flag was created... it was thought that the flag should contain elements of 3 countries.. Indonesia (the red and white background), Malaysia (the crescent moon) and China (the 5 stars)

well..the reasons for these countries are presumably

Indonesia, very big country? not sure about this.. maybe someone can think about it and share =)

Malaysia, neighbour mah..must have good relationship.. but also because of the large natural
resources they had while Singapore have zilch (nothing)

and China, to please the Communist in Singapore and China

so.. just some food for thought as we approach National Day =)
